Data growth and availability as well as data democratisation have radically changed data exploration in the last 10 years. INODE aims at simplifying access to data, by allowing a more dialectic and intuitive interaction with data using Natural Language Processing (NLP). The goal of INODE is to offer a suite of agile, fit-for-purpose and sustainable services for exploration of multiple open data sets; guidance for the users in understanding the data by providing insights into the data modal using visualisation techniques and offer suggestions of prospective datasets using recommender systems that can drive the user in formulating right NLP queries to find the right dataset efficiently; let user to explore the data extensively through in-built data analytic packages and to discover new insights/science through data visualisation.

Vision Paper

INODE: Building an End-to-End Data Exploration System in PracticeA full-fledged data exploration system must combine different ac- cess modalities with a powerful concept of guiding the user in the exploration process, by being reactive and anticipative both for data discovery and for data linking. Such systems are a real opportunity for our community to cater to users with different domain and data science expertise. We introduce INODE – an end-to-end data exploration system – that leverages, on the one hand, Machine Learning and, on the other hand, semantics for the purpose of Data Management (DM). Our vision is to develop a classic unified, comprehensive platform that provides extensive access to open datasets, and we demonstrate it in three significant use cases in the fields of Cancer Biomarker Re- search, Research and Innovation Policy Making, and Astrophysics. INODE offers sustainable services in (a) data modeling and linking, (b) integrated query processing using natural language, (c) guidance, and (d) data exploration through visualization, thus facilitating the user in discovering new insights. We demonstrate that our system is uniquely accessible to a wide range of users from larger scientific communities to the public. Finally, we briefly illustrate how this work paves the way for new research opportunities in DM.

Let the Database Talck Back: Natural Language Explanations for SQL

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English.

Teaching, research, continuing education, consulting and other services are both scientifically based and practice-oriented. One of the major strengths of ZHAW is that the majority of applied research projects are at the intersection of academia and industry by having a strong participation of industry partners as the drivers for these projects. Graduates of the ZHAW hold their own on national and international markets and in the intercultural working world. Students benefit from an internationally oriented university that places a special focus not only on conveying practical and specialist competencies, but also on developing social and personal skills. The eight Schools of the ZHAW cover a broad range of subjects: Architecture, Design and Civil Engineering, Health Professions, Applied Linguistics, Life Sciences and Facility Management, Applied Psychology, Social Work, Engineering, and Management and Law. About 11,100 students are enrolled in 26 Bachelor’s and 13 Master’s degree programs. The ZHAW also offers a wide variety of continuing education programs in many areas and thus serves as a partner for life-long learning. There are some 40 Master of Advanced Studies programs, over 150 Diploma and Certificate programs and various continuing education courses. The ZHAW is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Switzerland and thus  offers a wide range of specialist knowledge. The “Athena” Research and Innovation Centre in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies (ATHENA RC) is a research and technology body, which was founded under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Development in 2001. Athena RC participates in the project through its Information Management Systems Institute (IMSI). IMSI was founded in 2007, with the mission to conduct research in the areas of data management and large-scale information systems. In this small time-frame, IMSI has been established as one of the leading Research Institutes in the EU in Big Data and Semantic Web technologies, i.e. the foundations of the Data Economy. This is apparent in the quantity and quality of scientific publications in these fields, as well as from the success in obtaining competitive funding from EU and national programmes. More than 90% of IMSI budget comes from competitive funding (about 30 active research and development projects). The key personnel of IMSI have a long and pertinent experience in participating in and leading EU projects with an emphasis on topics for Big Data management, Cloud technologies, Open Data, and e-Infrastructures.
